This monograph analyses in detail the physical aspects of the elastic waves radiation during deformation or fracture of materials. It presents the methodological bases for the practical use of acoustic emission device, and describes the results of theoretical and experimental researches of evaluation of the crack growth resistance of materials, selection of the useful AE signals. The efficiency of this methodology is shown through the diagnostics of various-purpose industrial objects. The authors obtain results of experimental researches with the help of the new methods and facilities.

A textbook that offers a unified treatment of the applications of hydrodynamics to marine problems. The applications of hydrodynamics to naval architecture and marine engineering expanded dramatically in the 1960s and 1970s. This classic textbook, originally published in 1977, filled the need for a single volume on the applications of hydrodynamics to marine problems. The book is solidly based on fundamentals, but it also guides the student to an understanding of engineering applications through its consideration of realistic configurations. The book takes a balanced approach between theory and empirics, providing the necessary theoretical background for an intelligent evaluation and application of empirical procedures. It also serves as an introduction to more specialized research methods. It unifies the seemingly diverse problems of marine hydrodynamics by examining them not as separate problems but as related applications of the general field of hydrodynamics. The book evolved from a first-year graduate course in MIT's Department of Ocean Engineering. A knowledge of advanced calculus is assumed. Students will find a previous introductory course in fluid dynamics helpful, but the book presents the necessary fundamentals in a self-contained manner. The 40th anniversary of this pioneering book offers a foreword by John Grue. Contents Model Testing - The Motion of a Viscous Fluid - The Motion of an Ideal Fluid - Lifting Surfaces - Waves and Wave Effects - Hydrodynamics of Slender Bodies

Composite materials are gaining acceptance and demand in several commercial markets including sporting goods, construction and transportation. For many of these applications however, such as aircraft, without a reliable damage detection approach, the total cost of ownership may become a limiting factor for the structure s use. Several non-destructive evaluation techniques are compared on the basis of their strengths and weaknesses for in- service testing of composite materials. A procedure has been formulated for identifying and locating of damage in structures using Lamb wave propagation parameters as a base of the health monitoring of composite materials. The main focus was placed on ultrasonic based Lamb waves propagation method. The Ultrasonic based Lamb waves propagation method is totally a new approach for the problem of overlapping of the modes in the analysis of Lamb waves.

Wireless devices find their ways into our everyday life. Experts say in a near future we will be immersed in environments where we can use small handheld wireless devices to make seamless connections to the Internet via body area networks, homes/offices networks, city networks, and cellular phone networks. Adaptive wireless transceivers enable these networks to handle multimedia traffic and operate robustly in many difficult channel conditions. The wireless channel is unpredictable and diverse. Its response can change very fast when users are in moving platforms. Its signal strength can fade away and responses can exhibit large delay dispersion due to multipath propagation of radio waves. This book provides adaptive wireless transceiver techniques capable of handling these harsh channel conditions and offering high spectrum efficient channels. A computer simulation model accurate but simple enough for fast evaluation is given. System components such as channel estimation, equalization, and sequence detection are discussed in details. Theoretical analyses are provided in each part so that simulation results can be cross-validated.
